How to Make the Most of a Small Closet
Whether you just purchased a home in Lakewood or Long Beach or you’re selling one, a tiny closet can be a major sticking point.
So how can you get the most out of it, either for your own personal use or for staging purposes to show buyers how amazing it can be?
How to Make the Most of a Small Closet
Use these tips to make the most out of a small closet:
-
Declutter
-
Repaint and add a light
-
Use closet organizers
Let’s take a deeper look at each of these.
Declutter
Take out at least a third of the items in your closet and put the rest in storage. Off-season clothes, holiday decorations and other items that you don’t use frequently need to go on the chopping block first - and if you’re staging your home to sell, it’s a good idea to invest in a storage unit anyway. You can stash your stuff there until you move into your new home.
Repaint and Add a Light
Paint the entire inside of your closet white, which adds brightness and makes the space appear larger. Then, add a light. You don’t have to rewire your house to do so, though - you can buy a battery-powered LED light from the nearest home improvement store and install it yourself. The lighter your closet is, the more appealing it will be to use (or to buyers).
Use Closet Organizers
Add closet organizers like shelves and shoe racks, even if the closet is small. The more organized it is, the more usable it will be, both for you and for potential buyers.
