Does Your Bathroom Have These 3 Terrible Features?

If you're like most people who want to sell a home in Lakewood or Long Beach, you're pretty aware of what you need to improve or fix before prospective buyers start coming to see your space - but does your bathroom have any of these three features that send buyers running?

Does Your Bathroom Have These 3 Terrible Features?

Check out three of the things that buyers hate about bathrooms when they're touring homes:

  • Scant storage
  • Sad water pressure
  • Underwhelming lighting

Here's a closer look at each - and what you can do about it.

Scant Storage

Prospective buyers understand that bathrooms aren't the most spacious rooms in a home - but they still don't want to buy a home when a bathroom doesn't have any place to stash towels or other toiletries. A bathroom without storage (even for tissue products) is simply inconvenient.

If your bathrooms fall into that camp, there may be a few things you can do to enhance the space (and impress buyers). First, and perhaps most obviously, you should add a cabinet over the commode. Usually these mountable pieces are pretty affordable, and you probably don't have to hire someone to come in and do the work for you; most are DIY jobs.

You may also choose to add a vanity to your bathroom, or to create built-in shelving. In these cases, unless you're an experienced builder, it's probably best to hire a professional.

Sad Water Pressure

Low water pressure can be a deal-breaker, so you may need to invest in a new faucet or shower head. The good news is that these fixtures won't cost you an arm and a leg, and you can easily replace them yourself (if that's your style). Head to your favorite home improvement store and see what they have on tap (pun completely intended).

You may also need to have the plumbing checked - sometimes simple adjustments to valves or pipes can make a big difference.

Underwhelming Lighting

Finally, buyers don't appreciate bathrooms with dim lighting. Think about it: when you're already dealing with something as unpleasant as a bathroom, it's hard to stay in the mood when your space is poorly lit.

To counter this issue, you may want to replace your existing light fixtures. Sometimes covers absorb light - and if that's the case in your bathroom, it's worth replacing them immediately. Brighter bulbs may solve the issue, too.

If you simply don't have enough lighting installed, though, you may need to hire a professional electrician to add some for you.
