7 Unpacking Tips to Help You in Your New Home
When you buy a new home in Lakewood or Long Beach, it’s a relief to finally get all moved in and start unpacking your stuff - but it can be pretty overwhelming, too. Fortunately, you can use these seven unpacking tips to help smooth out the whole process.
7 Unpacking Tips to Help You in Your New Home
Check out these seven unpacking tips to make your move easier:
-
Pack a “Necessities” box. This box has everything you need for your first day (or two) in the new house - including things like shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, phone chargers, paper plates and other essentials.
-
Clean your new house before your stuff gets there. Make sure everything’s spotless so you’ll feel good about unpacking when the time arrives.
-
Check everything once it arrives - and don’t sign anything until you’ve given all your belongings a once-over. When you sign a statement from the moving company or shipping company, you’re accepting the state of delivery, which means you’re good to go.
-
Set up your bed first. It’s tempting to start unpacking the kitchen before anything else, but make your bed first; that way, it’ll be ready when you are.
-
Make a bin for things that end up in the wrong rooms. As you unpack, you’ll find things that belong in other rooms. Put everything that doesn’t fit where you are into the bin so you can sort it out later, rather than stopping what you’re doing to relocate an item.
-
Set up the kitchen. Prioritize daily-use items, like coffee mugs and plates, and don’t start on the other kitchen items until those are put away where you want them. Remember, too, that you can always reorganize the way you’ve set up your cabinets if it’s not working for you later.
-
Leave the garage for last. The things in your garage or other storage spaces can wait. Don’t burn yourself out on unpacking!
