5 Packing Tips for Your Move to Lakewood or Long Beach
When you buy a home for sale in Lakewood or Long Beach, it’s time to start packing - unless you’re hiring movers to tackle it all for you. But there are a few packing secrets that only movers really know about, and we’ve uncovered them. If you’re moving yourself, you can use these five packing tips to make the whole thing go more smoothly.
5 Packing Tips for Your Move to Lakewood or Long Beach
Check out these packing tips to make your move easier:
-
Pack plates with paper plates and bubble wrap. Stack your plates between paper plates or wrap them individually in bubble wrap, and when you’re done, wrap the whole pile in paper or bubble wrap. Don’t box your plates the way you place them in the cabinet, though - pack them sideways in a box that’s small enough to hold them, leaving just a little room on the ends and sides to put in more bubble wrap.
-
Get wine or beer boxes with cardboard separators to pack your glassware. Liquor stores give away their boxes all the time, so swing by one in your neighborhood and ask for the extras. Put one piece of glass in each divider and you’re all set. If you don’t have boxes with dividers, you can slide a glass or coffee mug into a tube sock to prevent them from cracking during the move.
-
Leave your clothes in your drawers. You can take all the drawers out of your dresser to move it or you can wrap the entire thing in plastic wrap to make sure they don’t slide out - but either way, there’s no need to take out all your clothes and pack them in boxes. It’s a waste of time (and boxes). Just wrap each drawer individually if you take them out of your dresser for the move.
-
Use your towels, sheets and dishcloths as wrapping material. You can roll up your kitchen utensils in dish towels, wrap art and decorative items in towels, blankets and sheets, and use other soft items around your house to protect more fragile pieces.
-
Label cords and take pictures of the backs of your electronics. Before you unplug anything, label the cords attached to each appliance you have so you know what goes where once you arrive in your new home. If you have a complicated setup on the back of your TV, take a few pictures of it before you pack things up - you can refer back to it in the new house and save yourself some frustration.
