5 Free Activities and Attractions in Long Beach to Check Out This Fall

These are some of our favorite spots in Long Beach:

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden

El Dorado Regional Park and Nature Center

Rancho Los Alamitos

Shoreline Park

Signal Hill

Here’s a closer look at each.

Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is a beautiful place to relax, meditate and take in some of the area’s local beauty. It’s on the campus of Long Beach State University, and although you may have to pay for parking on campus, admission to the garden is free. The gardens span 1.3 acres, and you can walk along winding pathways, check out the Zen Garden and stop by the koi pond while you’re there.

El Dorado Regional Park and Nature Center

El Dorado Regional Park and Nature Center is a surprisingly beautiful piece of nature in the heart of the city. The center’s grounds span 105 acres between the San Gabriel River and the 605 Freeway, and you can find all kinds of beauty in waterways, along trails and in open grassland. It’s a bit of a sanctuary for wildlife, as well, so don’t be surprised if you catch a few animals checking you out, too.

Rancho Los Alamitos

Rancho Los Alamitos is one of Long Beach’s hidden gems. This city landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it’s the perfect place to discover a wonderful piece of Long Beach’s history. You’ll find a historic ranch, gardens and self-guided tours during your experience.

Shoreline Park

Shoreline Park is a grassy, open place with unbelievable views of the water and downtown Long Beach. Bring a picnic basket, a blanket or your walking shoes to enjoy this idyllic paradise! You can even walk up to the lighthouse if you’re in the mood to get your steps in.

Signal Hill

Signal Hill is a beautiful place to spend a fall day. Its Hilltop Park offers unparalleled views of the area, so like Shoreline Park, it’s a wonderful place to picnic. Check out the shadow art frames while you’re there, and take a stroll along one of the area’s paved walking paths.
