Alamitos Beach Townsite was planned by John W Bixby. It remained as a separate Townsite until annexed by the City of Long Beach in 1909. Within Alamitos Beach are located the Historic area known as Bluff Park, Carroll Park and Rose Terrace. Alamitos Heights was built up during the 30's through the 50's. With mostly quiet residential streets, Alamitos Heights sits on the edge of Recreation Park, one of Long Beach's largest parks next to El Dorado as well as the Recreation Park Public Golf Course, a regulation length course that is open to the public.

Belmont Shore stretches along 2nd Street and Ocean Avenue on the southernmost end of Long Beach. It has its own shopping district, business association, pier and recreation center with the landmark Belmont Pool. The Belmont Shore 2nd Street Shopping District includes many independently owned small businesses such as Blue Windows (unique gifts), Finley-Grace Jewelers, Fingerprints (music), as well as franchise store locations of The Gap, Banana Republic, The Body Shop, Tilly's and much more. Restaurants located on 2nd Street include Mykono's (Greek), BJ's Pizzeria and Brewing Company, Shorehouse Café, Café La Strada (Italian), Panama Joe's (Mexican) and Taco Surf just to name a few.

The pier is located at Ocean and 39th Place. It offers free public fishing with no license required as long as you stay on the pier to fish.

The Belmont Plaza Pool will allow you to get into the swim of things! This beautiful million-gallon indoor pool is located on the beach near Belmont Shore. With a variety of swim classes, water exercise, lifeguard training and a weight room. Bluff Park comprises the areas centered on 1st and 2nd Streets as they run between Redondo Avenue and Junipero. Along this stretch homes offer very significant statements of different periods of architecture â€" Green & Green, Spanish Revival, and Mediterranean to name just a few. Architecturally, the homes in Bluff Park are quite varied and make for an interesting tour for anyone interested in turn-of-the-century estate homes.

At the intersection of 4th Street and Junipero, is Long Beach's famed "Funky District." With an emphasis on retro clothing, unusual gift stores and local hang-out Portfolio (a coffee house), the Funky District is worth a look-see for the local shopper weary of chain stores and the typical mall scene.
